About the Artist: Paul Lewin
Paul Lewin is a Jamaican-born artist who developed an early interest in art and culture during his Miami area childhood. His work is a vivid fusion of Caribbean folklore, surrealism, and Afrofuturist storytelling.
Lewin lives in Oakland, and the mural culture and spirit of community in Oakland and San Francisco have deeply influenced his work.
His art has been featured on four of Octavia Butler’s novel covers and has earned him nominations for both the World Fantasy Award and the Hugo Award. He has exhibited widely, including three solo shows at Betti Ono Gallery in Oakland.
Lewin maintains a thriving retail business through his website and actively shares his artwork with an engaged audience on Instagram.
Nature has been an important part of my work since I created the Caribbean folklore series. The hummingbird is the national bird of Jamaica, my home country, so it is a wonderful way for me to pay homage to the profound respect my ancestors held for nature, science, the dream world, and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Paul has an active Instagram presence and retail business on his website.

About Oakland Puzzle Company
Oakland Puzzle Company is a woman-owned puzzle brand with deep Bay Area roots. Our mission and promise is to support Bay Area artists and organizations through fair licensing and real partnerships. We team up with local artists and organizations to turn their work into puzzles worth losing an afternoon to. Some are cut and mixed by hand in our small East Bay factory. Others are produced by an overseas manufacturing partner we chose for their quality, social, and environmental standards. Either way, every puzzle starts here at home.
